Harris Broadband, L L..P. (“Harris”) is a next generation telecommunications service provider utilizing the latest in Fiber to the Home (FTTH) fiber optic transmission technology to deliver video, high speed internet and voice services to its customers.
With its “VIP” triple play package of over 200 video services, true high speed internet connections and multi-featured business and residential phone services, Harris is at the forefront of a growing trend in the telecommunications industry, one stop shopping. As the only local market provider offering the full suite of telecommunications services, Harris will benefit from customer demand for the increased flexibility and significant cost savings of bundled services.
Rare in the nation’s largest cities, Harris has deployed an Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) in smaller communities currently underserved by incumbent telephone and cable television providers. The EPON system is considerably more reliable than traditional cable television or telephone networks due to its “passive” nature, meaning no need for electrical powering in the field. In addition, EPON allows Harris to provide an unparalleled symmetrical internet bandwidth of up to 1,000 megabits per second. While ultra high bandwidth speeds will likely be practical only for the heaviest users, expected residential speeds of up to 10 megabits per second are considerably faster than locally available dial up (256 kilobits per second) or so called broadband services (1 megabit per second). EPON is the truest form of Broadband and is the most reliable long term solution.
Becoming a part of the communities it serves is also an important factor in the success of Harris Broadband. In its current deployment in Brownwood, Texas, Harris has added several prominent citizens as investors and will deploy fiber optic cable manufactured locally by Superior Essex, a Brownwood Company.
Harris Broadband provides a Local Area Network connecting all of the Brownwood Independent School facility’s with fiber as well as a Local Area Network fiber connection for all of the City of Brownwood’s municipal buildings. With a state of the art Emergency Alert System and two community channels focused on the Brownwood area, Harris will continue to look for other ways to serve the communities.
Brownwood is the medical hub for this region of Texas and Harris Broadband’s services are widely subscribed to in Brownwood. This allows imaging centers, physicians and medical labs the ability to communicate quickly and affordably.
Harris has, and will continue to, focus its efforts on smaller communities served by aging, over leveraged and/or neglected telecommunications systems. Typically, these markets are served by an undercapitalized independent cable television provider and a telephone company focusing its capital on larger markets.
